Diet and Health
We feed all of our igs raw- raw chicken, raw bones, raw everything. We feel that the closer you can get to the natural diet, the better.
We follow The Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat, by Juliette de Bairacli Levy. She traveled the world and raised her afghans on a completely raw and vaccination free plan. She also bred Ch. Turkuman Nissim's Laurel, who was the 1950 westminster KC hound group winner.
She cured many many afflicted dogs with herbs and organic means. She completely felt that nature itself is the best medication and what can man make better? Nearly all medications have side effects or are derived from chemicals our bodies cannot handle properly. Her afghans repelled diseases with ease and flourished with excellent health.
Many breeders are converting to the "natural method" and after experiencing the commercial and vaccination plan, I only have had horrible experiences. I feel that injecting an animal with chemicals that are known carcinigens is not only setting the animal up for cancer later on in life, but also is preparing a short unhealthy life.
Diseases are very likely, especially with generations upon generations of man reared methods- in Levy's book she states that "only after 5 generations of afghans have I begun to see increased disease immunity". Diseases are easily treated! I agree with Levy in her book when she says, " I can agree about the "horrible" quality veterinarians state, but not so much with its described dangerousness".
A note about vaccines below, but FIRST-- I will only EVER vaccinate a puppy if I am shipping it (vaccinations required in that instance) or if I am delivering it and other state regulations require it.
I will not even begin to talk about these booster vaccines and their contribution to health decline, but will instead talk of the parvo vaccine only. Not only does a vaccinated dog shed the virus from the vaccine through its feces to infect possibly itself or other dogs, not all particles of the virus may be modified-therefore infecting a dog directly from the vaccine. Breeders are noticing an increase in parvo everywhere and do you think this is because of the number of unvaccinated dogs? Just take a minute, and search google or yahoo or whatever- type in something like parvo after vaccine, dog sick after vaccination, parvo vaccinosis, and note the number of people who have a parvo dog and yet-their canine has had all its vaccinations or JUST had a vaccination. Most vets will tell you the dog must have been harboring the illness and it came out coincidentally at the same time you vaccinated. The chances of this is so slim, and with so many dogs this is happening to?
Even if vaccinations did give 100% immunity, and guaranteed to prevent any disease. The toxins you are injecting into the blood can cause death either immediatly or shortly down the road. Why risk that? This is becoming more and more common. Give the dog a chance to fight on its own and with naturally rearing.
There is especially alot of buzz about the rabies vaccine. It has proven to be most deadly and there is alot of concerned pet owners out there that are launching campaigns to try to get the vaccine companies to remove certain components and make it safer.
Theres MUCH more to be said, but in short, this is why we do not vaccinate. Ultimately, it is your decision if you follow the orthodox methods and vaccinate, but we will not vaccinate our puppies here. Health risks are too high and we won't risk the rest of our puppies health to vaccinate one puppy. More of this and great links for your own research below.

Health Testing
We will never breed a dog in questionable health, and we have some opinions on health testing that you are more than welcome to contact us about. Ig's can have a problem with thyroid or autoimmune disease, this is ANOTHER reason why we do not vaccinate and any other responsible IG breeder will either minimally vaccinate or not at all. IG's are VERY sensitive to drugs, vaccinations and anesthesia- and it has been proven that vaccinations have a large part (if not fully responsible) in causing autoimmune disease.

We really hate shipping. We try to place all of our puppies within a 1 state radius. We can deliver or meet up anywhere in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. If you really are serious about purchasing one of our dogs but live far away we can ship. HOWEVER, this requires us to vaccinate your puppy.
Contact
In past times we have rehomed one of our labs or sold a puppy and inquired that we would like to hear from them now and again, the buyer would keep contact through much of 5 months and then suddenly seem to disappear from the planet.
So, learned from past experiences, I've required that all of our iggie puppy buyers CONTACT us now and again. We require a valid email and phone number and if you have not contacted us in a long period of time, we will email you! This is not only for social purposes, but for judging the development of the puppy. You can only tell so much from an 8 week old, 3 month old, even a 6 month old- so adult pics are a must. Even in the pet quality puppies.
Other
We do ask questions about where our puppies will be going! Be prepared to answer some questions! How long will the puppy be alone per day and what is the reason you are interested in an Ig, etc. Igs are not an impulse dog, they take some thought and consideration if your home is suitable.
I recently worked for someone who crated their weimeraners for 8 hours per day! This person was reasonably knowledgable in the dog area and I was shocked. That day, I swore to myself I'd never let any of my puppies endure that.

The real agenda:
As far out as it may sound, the only thing vaccinations, commercial dog medicines and dog food is for is control and money. They don't give a crap about your dog to put it bluntly. Vets recieve an enormous amount of their income based on vaccinations- no wonder not many are willing to change their protocols according to the new plans laid out by the veterinary colleges X0.... The new protocol is based on non yearly dhlpp boosters and a more relaxed rabies protocol. I've yet to talk to one vet around here that DOESN'T want to see your dog in a year for boosters again, claiming it is the new protocol.
Dog food, now this is a well liked subject of mine, some high end dog foods that are based on holistic principles are alright, but for the rest of the dog food.. it is quite interesting. I'm only going to put emphasis on one type of ingredient : Meat and Bone meal. Sounds simple enough. Meat and bone. But what you don't know is what that MEAT is.
Think if you went to the grocery store and needed chicken, turkey, sausage whatever. But everywhere you turned the label just said "meat". You have no clue what it is.. Its a surprise, and not a very pleasant one in dog food. Meat and bone meal is everything from road kill to euthanized dogs and cats to rotting farm animals. What happens is 40% of euthanized dogs and cats end up at rendering plants. Other animals such as horses, cows, dear, elk, goats end up there too and are all divided into categories of freshness. Obviously the rotten sour bagged euthanized dogs and cats are in one of the lowest grades of freshness and are far cheaper than a higher grade of freshness. Thousands of animals go there per day and they don't rip off the plastic bags and maticulously unbuckle collars and toss them. Nope, all kinds of junk is ground up along with the animals. Extra packaging is also thrown in since its cheaper to grind it up than to have it hauled away. If you think about who is just perfect to eat all this stuff it is: The dog. Dog food companies buy up the ground up mess and add it to their dog food and label it as meat and bone meal. Under regulations, chicken meal can be 40% any other kind of meat and 60% chicken meal-just as long as the majority is chicken. No wonder why arthritis, cancer, allergies, bone ailments and temperment problems are so prevelent today.
